My first "burn-off" ...

02.05.
Today was a "burn-off (controlled burning) in the town of Meadows set in which I was of course. The weather was just right for it - hardly any wind, the sun, but not too warm ... We met at nine clock in the morning at the fire station, we dressed in addition to normal Fire equipment or with a mask and goggles, and then jumped in the truck. In Meadows arrived at the field (located on a hill summit), we saw over mountains and valleys of time in green-red-orange. A Kangaroo was hurriedly away when we moved into position. At such a place I will be once my house there ...: o)

The approximately 3-acre field was overgrown raspberry bushes, which we should now controlled burn. Since the field also extends over the hills, we excluded it in three parts. Area 1 went up the mountain, so we were (fire Echunga) on the top of the hill - as a backup to extinguish the fire and out again to To prevent extending unintentionally. At first we had real problems to light the fire. As Jared (one of our candidates) and I were standing at the fire hose, the fire started and then suddenly ran up the hill (fire burn faster up the hill than on level surface) and on us. This was a fascinating but frightening feeling. The flames were high - red black - the heat, the loud crackling, then the smoke. My heart began to beat! Idea that fire is now out of control, rolled over me, but Patty was so quiet, as if there no fire. After a large water load, the fire was tamed and conquered. I was impressed of the enormous power of fire. If a fire that burns under control, even as scary does, then I can only imagine it until no fire ...
Once we had burned the first two areas with no complications and cooled again, there was a BBQ, cold drinks and a breather. Then we made ran us to the third part. The area was smaller than part one and two, but as the changing weather conditions (sun, cloudless sky, warm), changed at the same time the focal condition. The third part was the only way up in flames, opaque white smoke came on and for a moment we were blind - the fire is still burning? Where is the escape route? Where's the front and where is the back? Then I heard behind me
a crackling, the smoke cleared and I saw behind us a little fire ("fire spot - spot = spot - caused by heat, a few meters or even kilometers from the original head of the fire). Because the grass was dry around, could the small fire quickly develop into a great and for us to danger. I tried Patty (at the time the hose) to call, so she turns around, but by the noise from the fire and from the pump at the truck, she could not hear me. So I jumped on the burning grass around until it was almost out. Then there was already a load of water under my feet by shot. Patty put out the fire then gänslich. Do not worry, the fire was under control! Spot fire now pass me, so be sure to always have his eyes on fire and behind a (hence a back-up squad a few meters behind the Delete Rupp)! Despite mask and goggles, I felt the lungs and eyes at the end of the day quite painful and I was super tired ...! A few days later I was tired / exhausted and had the feeling I can not sleep at night ... catch up! Still an incredibly good experience!

storms and rains since last night here. I am frightened at least three times during the night of loud thunder high - felt my whole caravan wobbled. And to the strong wind, that's really uncomfortable! In between times the sun came through, but now it's raining and storming back. In the evening, after Yabbies - for himself pulen - was for dinner, we had a fire department meeting in Kangarilla (I love these place names) about driving rules in use at least four other fire departments. Meanwhile, the clock to 21, we got a bet - tree blocking road. I rode along to control the traffic - a car on my side of the road! : O) Was a very quiet night ...

My spider seems to enjoy the new empire. Grasshoppers and flies are quickly destroyed - unfortunately I still have the spider can not observe the hunting and eating, as this happens mostly at night in the dark and then light when I do, there's nothing more to see ... Maybe I have to experiment sometimes with red or black light ...? My spider is probably male (height 1.5 cm), so I am now seeking a male spider's name. I am very excited about proposals. I beg to take it seriously: o)

Since 04.05. We have another new WWOOF - Steve from England, very young. Unfortunately, the folds relaxed working with him not so. He forgets every morning, where the work utensils are when he is finished with a thesis, everything will be placed somewhere else (so have we find the great room or behind) and if you give him a task, he turns first ten minutes helplessly in circles to start without ... Fortunately, he travels on Monday!

My Salsa time on Wednesday (05.05.) In the Level 2 course was super exciting. We not only learned the basic steps and a turn ... we learned a whole combination of steps, turns and course changes. In addition, the men were a bit more dancing talent and knew what they were doing ...! John (Italo-Australian, trying his hand as bachata teacher) took me into his golden cars (because my car's do not care, I know it is a mark) with the club, I this time with the Bus was there. Sleek, fast, and probably offset some of the car ...! O)
Once in the club, then there was the Wednesday-Bachata-hour with John as a teacher. I had an Asian dance partner - less than I - who was staring at me the whole time dancing on the breasts! He had an inappropriate size, but that is no excuse! : O)
I danced a few rounds of Salsa and Bachata - this time with the dance teachers to get even better! Johan (Malay / austr. Dance teacher) spun me around only pretending. No idea what he was, much as I did with the legs, feet or shoulders, but when I saw behaved like water, which (I think) not that runs out!

06.05.
What a work! So it can be like every day - shopping, coffee, shopping, eating ...! * Lol *
After we had packed a few reptiles to send it to Sonia and Steve went to Stirling to shopping (I love these days lol) and drink coffee. Then it was on to Adelaide. A quick snack at the "Noodle Kingdom" and then off to underwear shopping with Sonia. Later we met for a hot chocolate with Max, before it then went to eat sushi. Somehow we had to get around the time yes, because we had to wait until we could pick up our new reptile from the airport - approximately 15 Baby's Death Adder and about 10 baby tiger snakes!

08.05.
last weekend! Although the work is not overly demanding, I am always glad of being able to sleep. Clock rise seven, I find it still extremely difficult. But fortunately I have no 'drive to work ...!
After I started my morning quite comfortable, I started to walk (the weather was super nice, sunny, blue sky, warm) on the way to my 10 minutes from Salon - Eyelash. With music to the ears and the view over the mountains / hills, I enjoyed the small fall-spatziergang. When I stumbled over a stick the way and I almost long wondered I found out even that you can jump on a song when you shake the iPod! * Laughs *
As a reward for the movement, I allowed myself on the way back, an ice cream.
made then I am on, to Adelaide - shopping (I know it sounds like I'm constantly shopping at, but I buy so not every time something ...) As I walked through the Rundle Mall (shopping street) walking, I met suddenly Laura (my former English Wwoofer'in) and some of her friends - a Frenchman and two guys from Hong Kong. We sat in a pub, a beer, coffee and some news.
For dinner I was with friends (Jorge / Antoine / Irene - NL) invited. There was pizza and a few movies ...

12.05.
We have another new Wwooferin - Akiko from Japan. It is from their behavior as Kanako - shy and reserved, but they can tackle good!
